Derfor har vi brug for regnskoven
Regnskoven kaldes også jordens lunger. Træer og planter optager CO2 og benytter dette til at danne nye skud, stammer, blade samt at udvide deres rodnet. Træer og planter benytter sig af fotosyntese til at optage CO2. Vi udleder mere CO2, end de samlede arealer af træer og planter kan nå at optage. Træer og planter har aktuelt optaget og lagret tæt på en tredjedel af vores samlede CO2-udledning.
Udledningen af drivhusgasser er den største klimasynder- og grund til de markante klimaforandringer. Regnskoven er faktisk med til at regulere vores klima på globalt plan, men den kan ikke længere følge med på grund af vores overforbrug.
Hvorfor er regnskoven truet?
Over de sidste 40 år, og særligt inden for de seneste 10 år, er der sket dramatiske ændringer i reduktionen af jordens lunger. Regnskoven brændes af og ryddes, så åbne arealer kan benyttes til andre formål som marker til sojabønner, gummitræer eller græsningsarealer til kvæg. Den største synder er dog palmeolie, som også kaldes det nye sorte guld.
Herunder ser du et kort med røde markeringer over udryddet regnskov. Umiddelbart ser det måske ikke ud af ret meget, men det drejer sig om kæmpe arealer. Hvert minut ryddes et areal af regnskov svarende til 12 fodboldbaner.
På første billede herunder ser du et billede af en del af Asien. På billedet ved siden af angiver de røde markeringer regnskoven, som er blevet ryddet. Det er markante markeringer og kæmpe arealer som hele tiden bliver større hver minut, som regnskoven udryddes.
Sammenhængen mellem regnskoven og palmeolie
Den naturlige og logiske sammenhæng mellem regnskoven og palmeolie er penge. Efterspørgslen er enormt stor og skovarbejderne gør det ligeledes for penge for at kunne overleve. Palmeolie omtales derfor som alt andet end bæredygtig og klimavenlig. Det er dog værd at tænke i alternativer.
Palmeolie er en af de store klimasyndere
Du har med sikkerhed flere forskellige produkter indeholdende palmeolie i dit hjem. Palmeolie findes i produkter som brød, chokolade, tandpasta, skyllemiddel, vitaminpiller, kiks, nødder og mange, mange flere ting.
Sådan er det i hele verden, og dette skaber en naturlig efterspørgsel efter palmeolie. Størstedelen af mennesker er ikke opmærksomme på indholdet af palmeolie i diverse daglig- og fødevarer og deraf den industri, som støttes, hvilket, vigtigst af alt, har negativ påvirkning på klimaet og miljøet.
Palmeoliens mange betegnelser
